Caregiver Support Program
The role of caregiver to an ill or disabled family member or other individuals can arise unexpectedly. The healthcare system is complicated, costly, and overwhelming. JASA’s Caregiver Support Program offers caregivers a roadmap, support, and resources.
JASA’s holistic approach addresses the needs of nearly 500 caregivers. Our program provides services that enhance the caregiver’s ability to manage caregiving tasks and allow caregivers to attend to their own needs, such as personal errands or visits to their own doctor.
We define a Caregiver as:
- An adult family member or other informal caregiver, 18 years and older, providing unpaid care to individuals 60 years of age and older
- An adult family member or other informal caregivers, 18 years and older, providing unpaid care to individuals of any age with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders
- Older relatives (not parents), age 55 and older, providing care to children 18 and younger; (Kinship Grandparents)
- Older relatives, including parents, age 55 and older providing unpaid care to adults ages 18-59 with disabilities
Our Social Work staff can offer/provide
- Limited Respite for qualifying individuals which includes: individual in-home care, Social Adult Daycare, and other respite supplemental services (securing equipment, supplies, and items not covered by Medicare or private insurance)
- Ongoing Support Groups (online and in person) and Counseling
- Information and Referrals
- Assistance with Benefits and Entitlements
- Caregiver Education/Training (workshop & presentations on various caregiver topics)
Services are provided in Brooklyn Community Districts 10-15 and 18, free of charge.
