Engagement with elder abuse cases can be emotionally demanding. This workshop provides essential tools for building resilience, establishing professional boundaries, enhancing emotional regulation, and promoting long-term professional well-being. This session is appropriate for individuals in direct service, supervisory, or programmatic administration roles.

Kera Brown has dedicated over a decade of her professional career to working with older adults. Throughout her career as a certified case manager and supervisor, Kera has built a solid foundation of leadership, beginning with her role supervising a case management program. This experience has equipped her with valuable insights into the multifaceted challenges faced by older adults and their families. In her current position, she works closely with families and caregivers to identify stress indicators that may affect their well-being. Her proactive approach aims to mitigate caregiver stress and prevent burnout, which can lead to serious issues such as neglect or abuse of care recipients. Kera serves as the supervisor for the Family Caregivers Assistance Program (FCAP), where she provides crucial support and guidance to those who care for older adults. 

Kera holds a Master's degree in Geriatric Counseling from Hofstra University, which informs her work and helps her apply foundational paradigms to support caregivers and care recipients effectively. Through her dedication and expertise, Kera is committed to improving the lives of older adults and ensuring that their caregivers are equipped with the tools and resources they need to provide compassionate and effective care.

Marisol King is a compassionate and dedicated social worker with nearly two decades of experience committed to fostering positive change in individuals and communities facing systemic challenges. Holding a Master of Social Work (MSW), Marisol has developed deep expertise in addressing complex social issues while providing critical support to vulnerable populations. Their passion for social justice, equity, and advocacy drives them to empower marginalized groups, promote inclusivity, and create lasting, meaningful change.

Throughout their career, Marisol has demonstrated exceptional skills in case management, counseling, and community outreach. They have worked collaboratively with various organizations and government agencies to design and implement programs that address the multifaceted needs of at-risk populations. Marisol specializes in key areas including LGBTQIA+ Aging, caregiving support, Adult Protective Services (APS), mental health, HIV/AIDS, and substance misuse. Their client-centered approach is grounded in empathy, resilience, and trust, enabling them to build strong connections and facilitate effective interventions that enhance the well-being of those they serve.

Marisol is committed to professional growth and continuously engages in workshops, seminars, and educational opportunities to stay at the forefront of her field. They are also a staunch advocate for mental health awareness and self-care, both within their profession and in broader community contexts. Meredith Levine is a skilled social service leader who is dedicated to helping families access programs and services that will enrich their potential for success and independence. Currently, the senior director of care management and information services at JASA, Meredith oversees a $5 million portfolio that touches the lives of 10,000 older adults and their loved ones each year. With experience in child welfare, developmental disabilities services, faith-based community resources and services for older adults, Meredith has a keen understanding of the systems impacting the non-profit sector and government-funded social services available to New Yorkers in need. Meredith has focused her leadership on developing information and referral programs at large social services agencies in New York City.

Meredith started her career writing grants for a grassroots hunger-fighting agency in rural Florida, and has since helped stabilize at-risk families in the South Bronx, trained community members to help their neighbors access social services, empowered parents to advocate for their special needs children, and taught the siblings of special needs children coping skills so they could embrace their unique family dynamic. In addition to direct service, Meredith has raised over $500,000 writing grants for programs benefiting children and families across New York City. Meredith holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master’s degree from Columbia University School of Social Work.
