DETAILS

General Responsibilities:

The Pastoral Counselor provides spiritual and pastoral care and support to older adults who are clients of the Senior Community Connection program. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide spiritual/pastoral care and support to culturally/religiously diverse clients and families in accordance with the ongoing wishes of the client and their family
  • Work cohesively with other staff members in a multidisciplinary team and provide support as needed
  • Identify evidence-based spiritual/pastoral assessment tools to be used by the program 
  • Co-facilitate bereavement and caregiver support groups with Social Work staff
  • Develop individual spiritual/pastoral care plan based on each client’s needs and continually assess client/family response to spiritual support interventions 
  • Provide guidance to the multidisciplinary team regarding spiritual/pastoral/ethical issues
  • Chart spiritual support visits with patients and families in JASA’s program management software
  • Plan and participate in memorial services and other rituals
  • Attend general staff meetings and scheduled in-services
  • Develop collaborations and outreach with multiple faith-based communities
  • Refer clients if needed to outside faith leaders as needed
  • Perform other related tasks as requested or assigned

 

Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree preferred in divinity, theology, pastoral care, religious studies, or relevant field 
  • Training in Clinical Pastoral Education and experience in providing palliative, spiritual, pastoral, or chaplaincy care
  • Comfort in public speaking, group work, and individual counseling
  • An understanding and appreciation of the roles of race, religion, ethnicity, sexual preference, and individual values have as they relate to serving clients
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ambitious, innovative, and creative
  • Ability to travel using mass transit
  • Proficient computer knowledge and skill, able to use program-specific software
