General Responsibilities:

The Friendship House’s Mental Health Worker will play a key role in the overall success of the program through the support that they provide to the members as well as to the overall program’s operations. The Friendship House’s Mental Health Worker will also have responsibility to transport Friendship House members from their homes to participate in Friendship House activities.  


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supports the mental health of Friendship House members
    • Assists clients in developing empowerment skills through self-advocacy
    • Encourages socialization by introducing topics of discussion and/or assisting with introducing activities to reduce isolation
    • Collaborates and assists with planning, organizing and facilitating peer-oriented activities as needed
    • Assists new members to acclimate to program through making connections with other members
    • Reports changes in members’ mental status, behavior, mood, and functioning to other program staff
    • Provides telephone reassurance as needed
  • Supports program operations 
    • Assists with arranging other transportation for members not traveling in program’s vehicle
    • Assists with room set up for activities as needed
    • Accompanies members to appointments when necessary
    • Collaborates with other staff to plan and prepare for activities and events
    • If bilingual, assists with translation as needed
  • Drives program's van to transport Friendship House members to and from their homes
    • Picks up and drives members to and from their residences to the center 
    • Assists members into and out of the vehicle 
    • Obeys all traffic regulations and signals
    • Maintains trip records and mileage records daily
    • Calls members to confirm before picking up
    • Maintains vehicle in working order and in clean and safe condition
  • Performs other related tasks as requested or assigned



  • Three years driving experience and a valid NY State Drivers license. CDL license preferred.
  • Clean driving record with no moving violations or DUI/ DWI convictions
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to interact with older individuals at all levels, especially those with a mental health diagnosis
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships virtually with a diverse group of staff and consultants
  • A great sense of humor, flexibility and adaptability 
  • Ability to work a lift gate 
  • Ability to read, write and speak English



Rate: $18.00 per hour
